Abstract

The diurnal pattern of surface temperatures on various surfaces was investigated with an infra-red thermometer on a sunny summer day in the central area of Bonn. The results were compared with measurements of air temperature. It is concluded that the increasing summer overheating of the soil surface is a parallel phenomenon to the development of new types of urban building pattern.
